About

Daniel Huston is a Freelance Lighting Designer based out of New York City. Some of Daniel’s recent lighting designs include SEX with The Dirty Blondes in NYC; Candide, IolantheThe Countess Maritza, and La Vie Parisienne at the Ohio Light Opera,  Into the Woods at Western Plains Opera; Three Sisters and Little Women at Ashland University; American Night at Teatro Milagro in Portland, OR; Romeo & Juliet and Carrie the Musical at Michigan State University; and Silent Sky and The Lion in Winter at Williamston Theatre in Williamston, MI.

A native Ohioian, Daniel graduated from Mount Union College before receiving his MFA in theatrical design from Michigan State University, concentrating in lighting design. He has taught lighting and sound design at The University of South Dakota in Vermillion, South Dakota and Lighting Design at the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio. He currently is adjunct professor and staff electrician at Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey.

In addition to his work as a lighting designer, Daniel has experience in all of the other areas of design and has also work extensively technically as a scenic painter, props artisan, master electrician and scenic carpenter. He has even dabbled in costume construction. This represents his philosophy that a theatre artist is a versatile collaborator that is able to work in and understand all of the facets of technical theatre.

He is currently the Production Manager and Resident Lighting Designer at the Ohio Light Opera, where he has worked for the past seven seasons.
